The History of the Margarita Cocktail: A Refreshing Mexican Classic

The Margarita cocktail, a refreshing and delightful drink, has a fascinating history dating back to the 1930s in Mexico. There are several legends about its origin, but the most accepted one is that it was created by bartender Carlos “Danny” Herrera in Tijuana, Mexico.

Legend has it that in 1938, a beautiful lady named Marjorie King visited Rancho La Gloria restaurant, where Danny worked. Marjorie was allergic to all liquors except tequila, but she found its taste too strong to drink it straight. Inspired, Danny mixed tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice with ice, thus creating the Margarita cocktail, named after his muse: Marjorie (Margarita in Spanish).
